Huge 3D hand set faux amber and glass brooch/pendant, Schreiner New York, 1960s

Huge 3D hand set faux amber and glass brooch/pendant, Schreiner New York, 1960s

£265.00

This brooch is extraordinary. The three huge Lucite faux amber cabochons are set in gilt metal in a dome shape with apricot paste in rounds and navette shape glass. Also, in those shapes, are metallic bronze set paste. The sum total of all these parts is a glowing amber dome. It is signed and can be worn as a brooch or pendant.

Henry Schreiner started the Schreiner Jewellery Company in 1939 and was director until his death in 1954. His daughter and son in law continued with the business until 1977. In the 1950s he made jewellery for Christian Dior.

His jewellery is very distinctive for its use of unusual mounts and subtle colour combinations, using the finest quality rhinestones and crystals. He made exceptionally glamorous belts, bib necklaces, unusually coloured baroque brooches (his signature ‘ruffle’ brooch is a classic!), and large pendant earrings, always glamourous. Bette Davis and Marilyn Monroe promoted his jewellery and wore it in various films. His jewellery is widely collected.
