This is a stunning example of Ken Lane's work from the 1960s. This beautiful collar is a totally 'red carpet' piece. Stunning with an up do! Kenneth Jay Lane was born 1932 in Detroit. He worked as a shoe designer for Christian Dior in New York, under Roger Vivier, before setting up ’ K.J.L.’, his vastly successful costume jewellery empire in 1963. His patronage by Diana Vreeland at Vogue soon brought him to the attention of Royalty and Hollywood alike, with the Duchess of Windsor being an avid collector and friend. Babe Paley, Jacqueline Onassis and many smart Manhattan personalities sported his jewellery, all circles in which he himself enjoyed circulating! - the pieces were immediately glamorous and striking! There is a great playfulness and diversity to his designs - his style is bright and eclectic, imitating themes as diverse, from Moghul and Art Deco styles, including many ethnic and cultural styles in between. His most distinct pieces come from the days of the 1960's (jewels marked 'K.J.L.') until the late 1970's (jewels marked 'K.J.L.c'). He then used his full name on his signed pieces, and started a more mass appeal collection. He continues to this day with his QVC shopping channel, still fascinated and intrigued with it all - what incredible stamina he must have!
