'En tremblant' gunmetal mirrored and clear paste floral brooch, Schreiner N.Y.

'En tremblant' gunmetal mirrored and clear paste floral brooch, Schreiner N.Y.

£225.00

This mid century brooch by Henry Schreiner is a wonderful combination of a flowing floral theme with an austere colour palette. The grey and black is offset by the sparkling clear paste and the mirrored gunmetal paste adds extra depth to the design. The three flower heads are on little springs so they shimmer as you walk. Henry Schreiner started the Schreiner Jewellery Company in 1939 and was director until his death in 1954. His daughter and son in law continued with the business until 1977. In the 1950s he made jewellery for Christian Dior. His jewellery is very distinctive for its use of unusual mounts and subtle colour combinations, using the finest quality rhinestones and crystals. He made exceptionally glamorous belts, bib necklaces, unusually coloured baroque brooches (his signature ‘ruffle’ brooch is a classic!), and large pendant earrings, always glamourous. Bette Davis and Marilyn Monroe promoted his jewellery and wore it in various films. His jewellery is widely collected.
