Iconic Paco Rabanne gilt ' disc' belt, 1960s

£265.00

Hugely iconic gilt 'disc' belt by haute couturier Paco Rabanne from the late 1960s, epitomising his 'Space Age/Futuristc' vision. Made from interlocking and linked light metal discs, its soft golden colour and moderate length make it a highly collectable and wearable piece. Paco Rabanne started his career, designing jewellery for Dior, Givenchy and Balenciaga, going on to open his own fashion house in 1966. His iconic pieces were innovative both in design and in that he used very unconventional materials for the times, such as metal, paper and plastic for his 'Metal Couture' amongst other flamboyant and exotic designs. With this criteria he went on to design the costumes for the Space Age fantasy 'Barbarella'. The beautiful French chanteuse, Francoise Hardy, was a big fan of Rabane's designs.
